Mornings with Tresha Lionel

Mornings with Tresha Lionel is more than just a morning talk show; it is a platform for positive change, empowering viewers to engage with the issues that matter most. By fearlessly addressing gender equality, poverty alleviation, and corruption, in Saint Lucia and the rest of the Caribbean region,  this show informs and inspires action.

As a talk show host focusing on issues of corruption, gender equality, and democracy, I have encountered numerous threats and acts of violence. One particularly distressing incident involved a break-in at my home, where my vehicle was stolen, vandalized, and abandoned under bushes. The following day, during a live show, I was deeply moved to tears by a caller's kind words of encouragement. This moment resonated deeply with me, making me feel seen despite the raw vulnerability exposed on live television. While I still feel uncomfortable about the vulnerability revealed, it is a powerful reminder that media can be a platform for openness, community, and connection. I remain committed to 'Going There' and continuing the work I know to be grounded in truth and justice.

Early Experience

This incident sheds light on the broader issue of gender discrimination in Caribbean journalism, where women often find themselves subjected to inappropriate remarks and unequal treatment. The stereotype that women journalists are to be patronized rather than respected as professionals undermines the integrity of the industry and perpetuates a culture of inequality.
